How long is CWF?
Our co-op runs 2 semesters (fall and spring). Workshops run from 9:45 to 2:30 pm. Families commit to spending the entire day with us and students take 4 classes from which they choose from. Each parent teaches at least one class, assists in two and has one hour off to fellowship with other parents. Since our co-op is strictly 'volunteer' parents, teachers are not paid for their classes, as in some co-ops. This keeps our co-op reasonable for most families. Teachers may charge a nominal fee for materials or request a certain textbook &/ or supplies be bought for the class.
How expensive is CWF?
CWF is very reasonable compared to other co-ops. Since our parent/teachers volunteer their time and are not paid, the only expenses are registration, insurance and class fees.
How much is the Registration Fee?
Registration is $25 per family per semester. In addition, each family must participate in a group liability insurance that we carry in case anything breaks at the church ($16 per family for the year). Individual class fees range from $2 - $12 for the entire semester. So, for example, a family of four kids takes four classes a week (total of 16 classes.) A semester of ten weeks would have a total of 160 classes. The bill, including registration, insurance, and fees would be $130. What a bargain!
What does the Registration Fee cover?
The Registration Fee covers administrative costs such as postage, photocopies, cleaning supplies, as well as a per child fee that the church charges for rental of the building.
What does the Insurance Fee cover?
The insurance fee is only for liability coverage in case something the church owns gets damaged while CWF is in session. Each family is responsible for their own medical insurance which includes coverage if their child gets injured at CWF.
Do I have to teach at CWF?
Yes, every parent is required to teach at least 1 class, assist in 2 other classes and a parent has one hour off to fellowship with other parents.
Can I teach more than one class?
Yes! We love when teachers teach more than one class. And it is not that much more work to teach the same class to a grade level up or a grade level down. It gives our kids more options!
Do you have classes for high school students?
Yes, we have a tract for high schoolers.
I have a baby or a toddler. Is there a place for them?
If we have babies, we will run a nursery. If you are the parent of a baby or toddler, you are required to work one of your two "assist" hours in the nursery/toddler room.
What does my child need to bring to CWF each week?
Your child needs to have a backpack with the following age-appropriate items: pens, pencils, writing paper, crayons or colored pencils, scissors, liquid glue and a glue stick.
What if we already have a pre-planned family vacation during the co-op weeks?
You may still participate in CWF but we ask that you have only one pre-planned absence each semester.
What if we cannot attend one week because of a family sickness?
If you will be unable to attend CWF you need to call the Absentee Coordinator ASAP so that we can find another parent to cover your classes.
Can I send my children along with another family if I cannot make it to CWF?
You may send your children along with another adult/family if your child is kindergarten age or older. This adult assumes full responsibility for your child in your absence. You may use this option only once duing a semester.
What is required for cleaning duty?
We need just 30-45 minutes of your time after classes, usually 2-3 times during the workshop semester. Duties include vacuuming the rooms, wiping down tables and sinks, and gathering trash. One family is assigned to watch your children while you clean.
